A dogbone, is a short structural rod that can be attached to the end of a rope and used to establish a connection with another rope, an eyelet, or a deck fitting. The conical middle and symmetrical ends make the piece look like a bone, hence the name dogbone. It was originally made from a wooden peg and has been around since the days of tall ships. Over the years, this device has fallen out of use but has recently been revived thanks to better materials and a renewed appreciation for its versatility. The dogbone is a very practical way to attach downhauls, connect soft loops used to attach blocks to deck hardware, and many other rigging applications. Tylaska’s dogbones are available in eight different sizes, from T6 to T24, in aluminum or 17-4PH stainless steel, depending on strength requirements. The main feature of Tylaska’s dogbone is its unique patented design, which is conical in shape with a grooved texture that grips the line and prevents slipping. Tylaska’s new design has both a cone and multiple surface bumps that grip the line without cutting or damaging the rope fibers.
